The High Security Voiceover Audition My Voice over webmaster has asked me to write several voiceover articles. This is but another… I received the audition from my agent late in the evening. When I asked what exactly it was for, he said he couldn’t say. I found that to be odd, but oh well. The following morning I went to the studio and found it to be a fortress. I buzzed the main door and they verified my name, then buzzed me in. I was greeted by a producer’s assistant, complete with ear piece for instant communication. She had me sign three releases before I could see the sides (voice over copy). Finally, I got the copy. I’d tell you what it was but I’d have to kill you… or myself. Then I was led down a hallway to a secured door. She input the code and we walked down another hallway to another secured door. More code inputting. Then we made it to the voice over booth. It was a large booth with no windows and no way to see who was running the session. So, I put the headphones on and began with the audition. The producer said she loved my take on it, but could I try it more like Steve Buscemi. Well, this was early morning and my voice was still in the James Earl Jones territory. I tried my best but didn’t quite do it. After I finished the last line I grimaced and the producer asked, Why the look? I freaked! How did she know I made a look? Apparently there was a camera in the corner… Very sneaky. I said I was glad I didn’t pick my nose. We all laughed then I got the hell out of there – Just in case they were Scientologists! |
