Trailer voice-over is the narration heard
on movie advertisements that usually play in theatres and on
television. They are meant to promote the film and create
buzz. The current trend in the announcer style was pioneered
by Don LaFontaine (Voice Of God) and is marked by a close-mic
delviery that combines the lower end of the voice and a
slightly aspirate quality.
Promo voiveovers, on the other hand, take the various trailer
voice techniques and increase the urgency (due to broadcast
television commercial time constraints). There are several
network voices that embody the attitude of the network more
than the style of television show. Within promos, there is
also local news annoucer styles.
