Advertising for car dealership is quite
different from Auto makers' advertising their new make and
model car. With brand auto companies, the commercials are
usually national campaigns and feature high-end production,
as well as tempered voice overs. The announcer is usually
representing the feel and image of the vehicle. Often times,
they will hire a celebrity to do their voiceover, such as
Keifer Sutherland, Jeff Bridges, Lindsay Wagner or Jon Hamm.
The voice quality is more intimate and varies from
understated to macho to offhanded to whimsical.
Automotive brands that use the understated or celebrity
voiceover are ones like Lexus, Mercedes Benz, Infiniti.
Volkswagon and smaller model vehicles will often get the
whimsical or twinkle-in-the-eye voiceover reads.
Auto dealership chains usually advertise locally and their
television and radio commercial must tout limited time deals
and offers. The voice-over is more urgent and harder sell.
The higher-end or more creative car dealerships may also go
with understated or attitudinal voice-over styles, but the
majority are straight forward announcers flirting with
yelling decibel performances.
