Good God! What The Hell Is This?!

You've landed on the blog cross section of my two careers: film / tv /stage acting and voice over hoopla. Sometimes I veer off the road into gadfly-ism or schmaltz. Mostly I play with my belly button and pretend it's someone else's finger. - D.C. Douglas

Taking Your Project Union

sag aftra Taking Your Project Union

Should you go union or non-union with your project?  It’s a decision only you can make.  If I had my druthers (long, flowing pink ones), I’d rather you choose union (SAG or AFTRA).  But I know that can be difficult for small budgeted, individual projects.  That’s why I am also “financial core.”  This allows me to take on non-union projects while still abiding by union rules.

However, for larger budgeted projects, or companies that will be doing broadcast media work on a semi-regular basis, going union is imperative in becoming a member of the entertainment industry.  Unfortunately, the process to go union can be a bit cumbersome.  But a company I’ve recently discovered can make it a very easy process.

They are called DSG Production Services.  They operate as a production business affairs company.  Essentially, you can run your project through them to qualify as a SAG or AFTRA job.  They will ensure you are following all the steps required by SAG or AFTRA, and you will be paying your talent the rate they deserve, as well as supporting a community of artists who work hard to make a living.   You can use DSG for a single job or for all your jobs.

Union or non-union is your decision.  But if you ask My Voice Over Guy, I recommend going pro and hiring me or any other artist under a union contract.
