Ah, yes! An often used term that can lead a client down the road to a bad voice over. Cheap is actually the enemy of your project!
I understand the need to keep your audio/video production budgets under control, but don’t skimp on the showiest aspects of your project! The actual video and audio! that’s what people experience first and remember longest.
Sure, you can find amateur voice overs for $100 (even $30!) on the internet. There are clearing house websites (voice123.com and voices.com) that specialize in letting anyone with a microphone send you auditions. And that’s what you’ll get – amateur voice over performances. An announcer whose performance essentially undercuts all the other expensive things you’ve put into your commercial or production. You end up with a raw deal.
I think a better term than “cheap voice over” would be “affordable voice over.” Because that’s what you actually want. And with My Voice Over Guy, that’s what you’ll get. Affordable rates for voice over — and a voice over performance by a national talent.
That’s what I call a good deal.
