Today, my blog gets a little naked for Lou Dobbs. Please don’t turn away in disgust.
There are many voice over actors who will not provide their services for anything that is contrary to their political views. I’m not one of them. I don’t think the power of my voice and the quality of my timber can actually make someone do something. (Just like video games and rock music don’t make you do anything – you and your brain/brain chemistry are responsible!) If I’m not recording it, someone else is. I’d rather the money landed in my bank account – a secular Liberal with Libertarian leanings…

… That money will then one day underwrite a donation of my services to a cause I find worthy. Today is such a day.
Now, this is where I can get into a little trouble. Some reading this may inundate me with requests for free voice over for their cause. Please don’t. I pick my causes as I go, but I usually just donate money to charity, privately. So, please no email requests. [Shamless Plug begins] But if you’d like to hire me – check out My Voice Over Guy! [This concludes the Shameless Plug portion of the blog.]

I also worried that posting this video would reveal me for the Liberal that I am and I might lose subscribers (or clients)… Then I thought, “Are there racists, homophobes, ‘birthers’ or ‘tea-baggers’ following this blog?” After a good laugh, I thought, “Probably not, but it’ll clean house just in case!” (By the way, doesn’t the whole “Tea Bagger” name just crack you up? Didn’t anyone in the Americans for Prosperity organization Google it, for God’s sake? Perhaps that’s what happens if you and your friends only engage in Biblical sex… As in “missionary,” not shepherds and goats. Oy, this post is riding the line!)
ANYhoo!

I am a big fan of Media Matters and FactCheck.org. Recently, I ran across a video for Media Matters and noticed they released it with just a scratch track for the VO. I called them up and discovered that their budget was quite tight. I offered my services for anything they might need in the future. Below is our first project together. I hope to do more for them and FactCheck.org in the future… But know this: because I donate my services to them, I will only voice what I believe in. If you think you heard me on some city councilman’s spot in Arizona, know I did that for the money. Regardless, the way you vote, think and speak your mind is totally up to you.
The following is for their “Drop Dobbs: Halt The Hate” campaign.

Amen, brother!! I love the Dobbs piece. Thank you!
You are quite welcome!
Boy, I enjoyed listening to that! Gawd I hate Lou Dobbs. He is the epitome of a smarmy suck-up, and I think his teeth are as genuine as his views.
What an awesome line!
Never watched the show but enjoyed the vo and music.
Well, DC, I;m glad you took the job. Your reasoning makes sense to me. If not you, then someone else would have got the booking. Good decision. Here's another POV: Lou makes a good living and has ratings that keep him in his financial niche quite nicely.
He's figured out that to have a job in television these days you have to appeal to an audience who actually buys his televised ideology and they're out there. That's reality.
It's what he does. This is showbiz. Rush does the same for $400M /annually. Nice work if you can get it. And keep it. P.T. Barnum understood it first. There are (and always will be) a lot of gullible people in the world. These guys are capitalist smart.
Their expressed views keep em in the money. The rest of us are a bit too intelligent to give any serious thought or attention to their spiel and rants. Take the $$ and walk.
BTW do you really use a Behringer mixer? How's that working out? I like the mic choice too. I eventually want a TLM 103 but for now I use a Sennheiser 441U w/ Behringer 1222fx. The board's preamp is fine until I can afford the Avalon series. Adobe Audition 3.0 for the rest. I'm a PC. Thanks for the link. Best to you.
That's an interesting response. However, if I were asked to do a commercial about illegal aliens bringing leprosy into the country, or an ad saying President Obama is not a citizen – AS D.C. Douglas – i.e. "I'm D.C. Douglas, here to speak to you about the joys of tea bagging and fear mongering" – then I'd pass, no matter how much it paid. I wouldn't want to sacrifice my own identity to become synonymous with the message.
– As for the tech stuff, sorry to disappoint, but I had it set-up for me and I just run with it! Too many other things I need to obsess over (producing shorts that make no money, etc!)
Right on D.C.! It is refreshing to hear your voice in this piece. Not only doing this video and donating your services but promoting the video and cleaning house in the mean time. This day and age most would not recommend doing that on a professional blog. I stand up and applaud sir. Oh, and you had me at Lou Dobbs.
Thanks for sharing.
