The Bold And The Beautiful – Which Am I?

Bold n Beautiful long

I’m thinking beautifully bold.  Only in that I am writing two posts in one week.  Otherwise, I’m measured and cute.

Hollywood Droughts And My Crooked Eye

CE garagesm Hollywood Droughts And My Crooked Eye

Most film and TV actors in Los Angeles spend more time waiting to land their next job rather than working that next job. Probably 95% waiting, 4% working, 1% weighing other career options. If the ratio is better than that, you are a major success, baby! Or, you act in commercials and/or do voice overs.

Video Game Nirvana

Okay, I’m not sure if I’m even allowed to say I’m in this video game sequel behemoth, but I love to live on the edge. I don’t recall signing an NDA… (UPDATE:  Apparently I did, so I must redact!)

Barbara Gill: Voice Over Mentor

Karate Kid

In everyone’s life there are a few people that are always lingering in the rafters of the mind.  People who inspired us, helped us discover our potential, or were hands-on mentors.  For me, there are three of them.

First, my Ygnacio Valley High School drama teacher, Carl Spiegelberg.

The Futurama Of Voice Over

Picture 15

Wow.  I heard Friday afternoon that the voice cast of Futurama had grouped their negotiations together (a la “Friends”) and asked for a significant pay increase.  The network responded by firing all of them!  Sad and scary.  I feel for the actors because it is hard to get the same financial respect that on-camera talent gets.  And strange since production costs are usually much lower than a regular half-hour show.  This qualifies as God closing a window…

I Touched Lindsay Lohan!

Nothing like a salacious and creepy headline, eh?

Outfest’s Screenwriting Lab

OUTFEST

I’ve never been good at networking and that’s why I have my girlfriend.  By virtue of where she went to high school (Greeley) and college in New York (Skidmore), she seems to know everyone! (Seriously, it’s kind of scary).  It was through her that I met the sweet Matt Lessall, a casting director here in Los Angeles.  Occasionally he calls me to participate in a reading of some screenplay.  The last time he did that, it ended with me in a small role in a Lindsay Lohan film (more on that tomorrow).

LOL

Visited Chuck Duran (Rock ‘n’ Roll Chuckie) for some tag work on a few campaigns.  (Also ran into the talented and kind Dave Mallow who was on his way out.)  This company likes to put acronyms for the campaign names when billing. Today’s was “Legacy of Life” – funeral homes. Very touching and subdued. I bill it with the acronym “LOL.”  I just love that.

God Save The Burger King!

Last week I booked a radio spot for Burger King through the lovely folks at Voicecaster and went into Big Joe’s studio in Santa Monica to record.  It turned into two very fun spots.  I worked with Susie Geiser (who is a geiser of energy!) and we got to improv a bit, parodying “Fox and Friends.”  [One of the spots can be heard here on my Facebook page.]  At the end of the session they said we’d be back Monday to record “a few” more.
